Description: Most people associate the term Trench Art with stuff made from old shell casings, but thats just not the case at all.. Serious collectors know it.. Anything a soldier created in their idle time can be considered trench art. look closely at the drawing, this guy was a rather talented artist! The 'Military form' side of the drawing has the name of a Private James E Albert. I picked this up at estate auction a few years back. This drawing is amazing detail, done in pencil on the backside of a military form. It shows a soldier, presumably a Japanese, nick-named Poor Mac, facing the dangers of the jungle. I say, "presumably a Japanese", do to the oversized feet that are drawn. I know from my own father, who was stationed in the pacific in WW2. He told me how he and the rest of the troops were fed a steady diet of propaganda that the Japanese were 'sub human'. No, this drawing is not from my father's estate,, but My father did show me stuff that the military put out, mocking the Japanese soldiers BIG FEET... That brainwashing/indoctrination shows in this soldier's drawings... Truly amazing and unique piece of history. The person whose estate was auctioned, he was in the 28th infantry division and would have been one of the replacement troops sent in to Europe, and then he was shipped off to the pacific to fight the Japanese. He likely got this from Pvt Albert while they were both stationed there in the pacific. This measures 8" X10.5" and was found folded up in an envelope full of old photos. The paper is slightly yellowing from age. there are a couple of slight holes along the creased edges, and some slight stain spots. Please look closely at the pictures. I actually did a close up scan. and a few photos from my camera as well. Please feel free to ask any questions, I'll try to answer as best I can.
