Description: STK: #BAYO-2Brought to you by CAMARILLO TRADERS specialists in new, used & antique arms, collectible militaria and rustic ephemera WWI & WWII US Machine Gun & Artillery Crew M1917 Plastic Grip Bolo Knife & Brauer Brothers Metal / Leather / Canvas Scabbard Manufacturer: Worn Down, Possibly Plumb? Model: M1917 Blade Length: 10.25" Serial #: N/A TEXT GOES HERETEXT GOES HERE --> Offered here is a WWI US Machine Gun and Artillery Crew M1917 bolo knife and scabbard. This was made for crews to clear vegetation when setting up their guns. The Model M1917 was a simplification of the earlier M1910 Bolo made by Springfield Armory. The main difference is the lack of the press catch mechanism on the scabbard and grip. They felt the catch was not necessary to keep the knife in place. There were different manufacturers that made the knives such as Plumb and American Cutlery Co. of Chicago. The markings have worn down so it is hard to tell who made this one. The wood grips have been replaced with plastic ones. Overall, this bolo knife is in Good - Very Good condition, considering its age and history. The guard is securely fastened to the tang. It has oxidation and some discoloration. The coloring has started to turn a patina color. The two (2x) rivets securely fasten the plastic grip panels. They have scrapes and draglines. The top edge of the panels have been trimmed down it looks like. The finish is intact. The spine and sides have scrapes, oxidation and some light scattered erosion. The blade edge has a few nicks and dings, it appears to have its original factory edge. The tip is intact and comes to a sharp straight point. The finish has a lot of discoloration. There are markings that are too hard to read. They have been scrubbed down. The scabbard is in Good - Very Good condition, considering its age and history. The M1910 belt hook hanger is functional, rotates smoothly and mostly retains its original shape. It is quite functional. it is held on by a canvas frog that is securely fastened to the canvas body. There are no rips or tears and the stitching is sewn tightly. The metal mouth has light discoloration. The leather chape has light scuffs and some of the finish has worn off. The leather chape is marked "BRAUER BROS / 1917" and "D.M". This bolo knife and scabbard will be a great addition to your WWI Artillery Crew collection, or a bolo knife collection in general.
