Description: antique original Very Scarce World War One United States military - 1915 colt vickers wooden ammunition box - Good condition It retains its original , thinning and scuffed OD green paint , It has Scrubbed patches both front and back - likely old period unit markings removed And a few random paint splatters the bottom is scraped up from wear and tear , there is some slight remnant of crud in the interior, easily scraped out if desired dimensions are approximately 4 3/8” w x 15 1/8” long x 7 7/8” high Several tack/ nails were applied to one side - possibly from an old label or shipping tag Only about 2” of the original leather carry strap is intact - it shows signs of use and age the hinge and closing latch operate as they should the bottom of the box is worn ( after all - it’s over 110 years old ! ) The common Browning style boxes were Only 12 1/2 inches long These rare Colt-Vickers boxes are 15 inches long And they don’t have that slanted angle along the bottom seen on the typical ‘ browning ‘ boxes ( the pitch or distance between rounds on the m15 belt , dictated the use of a longer feed box ) very scarce today the model 1915 was phased out of service before the war even ended - Most were ordered destroyed or simply dumped at sea the ammo boxes didn’t fit the browning cradle so they were ordered to be destroyed in mass Few exist today , in any condition! don’t pass it up ! A rare relic from the Great War - A must have for advanced WWI collections
