Description: WORMS GERMANY ANTIQUE SYNAGOGUE (1200'S) CARD JUDAICASIZE: 9.5 X 5.8 CM The Old Synagogue (Alte Synagoge) in Worms was built around 1174 in a late Romanesque style. It was for the use of men only. Sadly, the attractive building was burnt down by the Nazis on Kristallnacht, and then suffered during bombing raids in World War 2. It was rebuilt using salvaged stones from the original in 1961, and is now occasionally used again by Jews. The adjoining women's section from 1212 can still be seen, and next to this is the Raschi Kapelle and teaching rooms. The Jewish Museum in the former dance hall is open for a small fee, covering the history of Jews in Worms.
