Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Interesting book on the reasons why wars in the last 100 years have started, beginning with WWI and ending with Iraq/Afghanistan. The author’s perspective has been honed by his life as a refugee in WWII, several years in China, and working for the United Nations and as a member of the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington. He points out that the specific reasons behind the commencement of each war in the 20th and 21st centuries have been varied, and often multi-faceted, but the military capabilities of the aggressor and the personality of a nation’s leaders usually play a major role. Put Hitler’s personality together with the strongest military in Europe, for example, and the inevitable will happen. Often, the expectation of a quick victory can play a part, even though it rarely turns out to be accurate. A fascinating analysis, well worth a read. This 2005 Trade Paperback is in very good condition, with no internal markings apart from two small marginal comments, and a cover with nominal wear.
