Description: Vintage 1950 Tiny Tears Baby / Play Doll made by American Character Doll Co. **This is the EARLIEST VERSION!!!" Tiny Tears has molded hair that made her a brunette baby. This Tiny Tears baby has bright green Starburst pattern Rock-a-Bye Eyes. When she is laid down, the eyes stay open and then slowly close just like a real baby does when its nodding off to sleep. All her brush eyelashes are intact, thick and full. She has a rosy cheeks and a cute little puckered red bottle mouth. The crying mechanism consists of two small holes located in between her eyes that produce "tears". She drinks water and cries when tummy is pushed. (UNTESTED) Her hard plastic head is lighter in color than her darker colored rubber body. Only middle finger present on right hand. Pinky finger is missing on left hand. Right arm has a large tear in the right elbow area. Left leg has a large tear behind the knee and right leg has a moderate sized tear in the right leg knee area. Feet and toes in good condition. See pics to review condition. Head turns from side to side. Arms and legs also move. Small opening in left butt cheek for wetting mechanism. Comes with cute little yellow gown (with ruffle), diaper cover and matching hat with lace trim. Decorated with baby ducks. _______________________________ Tiny Tears was introduced by the American Character Doll Company in 1950. She was manufactured in New York City initially with a rubber body that was changed to vinyl in later versions. The earliest example was 11-1/2" tall. Later versions came in 13-1/2", 16" and 20" sizes. The initial version also had molded painted hair which gave way to rooted hair in later versions. She was a revolution for young girls who wanted to learn the experience of being a "real mommy". Tiny Tears could drink from a bottle, wet her diaper, cry real tears and blow bubbles from a bubble pipe *after adding some soapy water). Her sudden popularity exploded when she became extensively advertised by Patty Duke in television commercials. She was also featured on a children's t.v. show "Ding Dong School" with Miss Frances Rapport Horwich on NBC. She remained very influential with little girls until the show was canceled in 1956 in favor of The Price is Right. Tiny Tears was A.C.D.C.'s most popular doll and remained in their product line throughout their existence. The company went bankrupt in 1968 and was acquired by the Ideal Toy Company.
