History: Willi Smith was an American fashion designer who pioneered streetwear and was a leader in the fashion industry for African Americans: Early lifeBorn in Philadelphia in 1948, Smith interned with Arnold Scaasi and attended Parsons School of Design on scholarship. WilliWearIn 1976, Smith and his business partner Laurie Mallet launched WilliWear, a fashion label that blended high fashion and streetwear. Smith's designs were known for their bold colors, relaxed silhouettes, and playful patterns. Street coutureSmith's designs were inspired by the creativity of people from the cities and suburbs, and he called his style "street couture". Smith's goal was to create clothing that was affordable, accessible, and inclusive, and to challenge stereotypes around race, class, sex, and gender. CollaborationsSmith was known for his collaborative spirit, working with artists, musicians, and dancers. He also contributed to Spike Lee's School Daze by designing costumes for the homecoming court. He also designed Caroline Kennedy's husband's jacket for their wedding. His designs appealed to both the ordinary person and the rich and famous thus making him one of the most successful black designers. Ever. After Willi's death in 1987, the company went bankrupt in 1990, without his guidance. This listing is a great example of a Willi Smith original (made in Italy) dates between 1976 - 1987. Two front slash pockets and 3 buttons on cuffs. Boucle wool (70%) blend (poly 30% lining) fabric. What makes boucle fabric so special? Well, its all in the texture. Those delightful loops give boucle fabric a visually interesting and tactile appeal. Whether you're considering a boucle jacket, a pair of boucle pants, or even a boucle-upholstered sofa, this fabric adds a touch of elegance to any setting. Its no wonder that boucle is a popular choice among interior designers and fashion enthusiasts alike. Boucle is random weaving of uneven texture (zoom in on last pic), in a royal blue and black, wide shoulder and slim hips, lined coat. Effect of double breasted, but only the bottom buttons on the inside (Inside button tight, so not used much) and outside. It is in perfect vintage condition. Labeled Medium but may be Large (go by measurements). Measures 24" across the chest armpit to armpit and 31" from the shoulder seam to the bottom. It is 22.5" across the back from the left shoulder/arm seam to the right shoulder/arm seam. It's got the big shoulder look! Check out the 80's boy bands. The upper part of the jacket is designed to be larger at the top than the slim hip area. Across the hips is 21.5" buttoned. Ample room in shoulder and chest. Consider that, unless you always wear it open. This exact jacket sold for $300 on Etsy.
