Description: Vintage Union Tool Co Orange Mass Tempered No. 4 6” Long Part for Square Tool. I believe this is part of a set that would be "Combination and Square Tool" - so this is not a complete tool in itself. What is shown in in good condition with normal age wear and patina. See the detailed photos. The Union Tool Company located at 48 East River Street in Orange, Massachusetts Has a starting date of 1908; although under a different name (union Caliper Co), they are noted as "Tools of the finest quality". Makers of Machinist's tools, clamps, protractors, gauges, calipers; etc.The Company started out as the Union Caliper Company in Fitchburg, Massachusetts by Emory E. Ellis and from What I can deduce he was born sometime in the year 1870 and he died on November the 11th, 1924, at the age of 54.The information I found said he was instrumental in the development of 26 patents and he brought some 700 tools to market. With this being said I could only find about 4 patents to his name, so I am guessing other people were at play in coming up with new patent ideas for his company?History of the company shows starting in 1930 the company had $400,000 dollars and 100 employees; then in 1957 they were sold to the Millers Falls company and that lasted till 1975 and then everything was sold to Frederick W. Johnson and James Sogard , the principals of the Adell Corporation. They in turn formed the Sojo Company and that lasted for ten years till 1985.
