Description: Vintage SMITHS Manual Wind Mechanical Stopwatch’s - SMITHS STOPWATCH RALLY TIMER - Dashboard Rally Timer Set. A really nice set which would look fantastic on the dash of your classic car. THE WATCHES Chrome Case SMITHS Sports Stopwatch 1/5 TH second with Sub Dial. Chrome Case SMITHS Pocket Watch with sub dial. Both watches work as they should, they wind, stop and start with no issues. The stopwatch fly back works crisply and quickly back to top dead centre. They are both in very good condition with no major scratches and no cracks to the glass. THE DASHBOARD PLATE The watches are attached to a very high quality custom made black crackle backplate which has been made specifically for this pair. They are secured to the aluminium dash plate with stainless steel and brass machined posts. Securing the watches in this way means they can be left in the vehicle when unattended. Spring watch clips are less secure as the watches can be easily removed by other interested third parties. The dash plate has been machined/relieved, immediately behind each watch winder, so as to allow an easy wind. There are two rear mounted fixing screws with wing nuts for a secure dash mount. Additionally, the rear of the plate is totally flat with no screw heads protruding from the surface which enables a flush flat surface mounting. The backplate measurements are shown in the photos. SUMMARY All in all a really nice piece with period appeal which is visually very attractive and designed with the user in mind. PLEASE NOTE that 100% accurate time keeping can-not be guaranteed due to age and use. These are period mechanical time keepers and will not be as accurate as modern day electronic devices. I would suggest they are used for a period aesthetic purpose only rather than 100% accurate time keeping. NOTE - The listing includes the SMITHS watches and dash mount plate (with fixings) ONLY.
