Description: This is an excellent example of Seiko 5 "Actus" SS, built in Japan in 1974.Actus was a sub-brand (of the "5" series; possessing these five hallmarks: An automatic movement, a day-date complication at the 3 o’clock position, water resistance, a recessed crown at the 4 o’clock position and a durable case.) Actus models were for the Japanese domestic market and targeted affluent, fashionable Japanese of the younger generation. These watches had higher jewel counts than other Seiko sub-brands (typically 21, 23 or 25 jewel; compared to 17 jewel movements often found in the contemporary DX line.)As an SS model, this watch features hacking (i.e. the movement stops when the crown is pulled into the time set position, to allow for accurate time setting. This was an uncommon/premium feature at the time.) This model uses the 25 jewel 6106C movement that allows for quick setting of the day and date by pushing the recessed crown in. Pushing the crown in one detent advances the date, while pushing the crown to the second detent advances the day and date. The day is bilingual; Kanji and English. The silver sunburst dial features raised 2-tone indices (silver-black-silver) with dauphine hands that continue the silver-black-silver look.
