Description: Here is a table mat constructed with four rescued quilt blocks each with an applique Sunbonnet Sue holding a parasol finished in the potholder method where binding is attached to a single quilted block. All of the blocks are hand quilted using a diagonal and horizontal orientation for the stitching. The fabrics for the Sues are cotton generally small prints from probably around the 1930s. The umbrella and hat fabrics are coordinating solid colors , the binding is vintage cotton and/or feedsack. The bound blocks are sewn together in a two x two layout. Mat measures approximately 15 3/4" x 19". The feet, umbrella handle and bouquet are hand embroidered. The muslin background is worn with areas of the batting showing through. Vintage cotton corners have been added which helps to stabilize the block. The binding is appropriate vintage feedsack or cotton fabric. Please view all of the photos using the zoom feature.
