Description: For your consideration is this Antique or Vintage Zither, originally 92 strings altogether! This was a 6-chord mandolin zither made by Meinel & Herold, Germany. Estimated c. 1920s - 1950. As you can see from the photos, this instrument is in need of complete restoration and repair before it can be used as originally intended. In its heyday it functioned with 6 sets of chords each with 7 strings, giving a lovely full sound, 25 melody notes each doubled up giving that mandolin sound, also making it a bit louder than the guitar zither. Unfortunately, there are cracks on the top and back, and the strings and tuning pins are rusty - some of them may even be broken. It would make an interesting display piece or perhaps a challenging restoration project for the willing enthusiast. ********This is A Vintage item - it has been sitting in a dusty room for decades and has not been maintained. It has scratches, rust, cracks, chips and missing parts.
