Description: Vintage Franciscan Desert Rose Earthenware Various Pieces USA Backstamp 1960s For sale various pieces of Franciscan Desert Rose dinnerware. All pieces listed here were produced in California in the 1960s. The lovely Desert Rose pattern features handpainted pink flowers with yellow centers and green leaves on an creamy ivory background. Most pieces in this listing have the USA backstamp, except the cups which have only the artist's number. Franciscan's Desert Rose pattern debuted in 1941, as a distinctly American design compared to traditional European bone china. Mary Winans from the Franciscan company designed it, inspired by the works of Annette Honeywell, a California freelance artist. Desert Rose turned out to be a ground-breaking innovation and became one of the best selling tableware patterns in the history of American dinnerware.In the mid-1980s, Franciscan was purchased by the Wedgwood Group and production was moved from California to England. Each piece is in very good vintage condition and would make a perfect addition to an existing set. There are no chips or cracks, however the pieces are not new, so buyer should expect some signs of use. There is light crazing on some pieces. Please take a look at all photos.
