Description: Vintage 14k Gold SKAL2.50Ct Mid Century Modernist Wide Tension Set Cocktail Ring Vintage 14k Gold SKAL2.50Ct Mid Century Modernist Wide Tension Set Cocktail Ring Click images to enlarge Description Offered today is a well-made, solid 14k yellow gold mid-century modernist garnet ring, signed SKAL. I set out to find out who stamps/ stamped their jewelry SKAL, and this trademark was used by the Skalet Jewelry Co. of NYC, with its inception in the 1940s. As far as I can see, the trademark no longer exists. (Many eBay sellers are incorrectly listing this SKAL stamp as belonging to a German designer, Hubertus Von Skal, but this is not his work. A German ring would NOT have USA hallmarks of 14k; it would have German assay marks). Anyway, I digress. This is a REALLY NICE RING and very unique! We estimate that this was made somewhere between 1955 and 1975. The garnet is a very intense reddish burnt orange color. It is an emerald cut measuring 9 x 6 mm (2.50 ct). It is tension set (no prongs) within little grooves carved out on the inside of the head which hold the stone in place. This type of setting allows the base of the stone to be seen from all sides and for light to penetrate. PLEASE NOTE: The garnet has a small chip on two of the corners, but the small chips do not detract from the overall presentation of this cool ring on your hand! The band is wide and the ring feels sturdy. The face measures 3/8" and the head rises 1/4" off the hand. The band is 3/8" wide also. The ring is marked 14k SKAL and weighs 7.4 grams. It's a size 7.75. Other than the slight chips to the garnet, it's in very good vintage condition. RING BOX IN PHOTOS IS JUST FOR DISPLAY AND NOT INCLUDED.
