Description: Utagawa Toyokuni, Kabuki Theater Scene (left half of pair) Woodblock, authentic 1860, Edo Period, Japan. Actor dressed for female role (women were not allowed to perform Kabuki theater) wearing an elaborate obi adorned with clouds and swastikas (Buddhist good luck image). The figure faced a male, samurai character originally. This is an authentic woodblock from 1860, but it has been repaired over time and still has worm holes and small tears. The condition is why I am selling it relatively in expensively.
