During Vietnam war. the 46th SF Co (Airborne) was established in June 1966 as Company D (Augmented), 1st SFGrp . Soon 75 Special Forces personnel were attending a 10-week Asian orientation course in East Carolina College with emphasis on Thailand. By mid-October 1966, the Company arrived in Thailand at Camp Pawai, Lopburi. By 1967 the Company was re-designated as the 46th Special Forces Company (Airborne) and locally recognized as the US Army Special Forces, Thailand. During this period, the 46th SFC was heavily involved in training missions with several detachments (notably Det. A, B and C) spread throughout Thailand. Specifically, the 46th SFC trained Thai Special Forces in UW and counter-insurgency with other missions including supporting Thai Border Patrol Police Counter-Insurgency training centers and assisting in training Thai volunteers for the war in Southeast Asia. Terminated in March 1972 when the 46th SFCo was re-designated as the 3rd Bn, 1st SFGrp and relocated to Okinawa, Japan. A valuable addition to your collection of Vietnam war memorabilia items.
