Description: Vintage TIRSCHENREUTH Bavaria, Germany "THE QUEENSROSE" #159 & #4416 Smooth Porcelain Dinnerware. Each piece is priced individually. Pattern Description: Ivory Background, Multicolored Floral Sprays on Rim & Center, Smooth Edge, Gold Trim. Made in Bavaria, Germany. This pattern is discontinued. NOTE: Tirschenreuth made the popular Queensrose floral pattern in a several styles. This #159 style has smooth edges and is on an ivory (cream) background. Style #4416 seems to be identical in appearance and may only differ by the dates of manufacture. Finally, there was a multi-sided style made. Maker's Marks: Style #159 has a printed green 'PT Tirschenreuth Germany' mark. In addition, #159 has the PASCO importer mark which was used between around 1948 and 1970. Style #4416 has a printed dark pink 'PT Bavaria Tirschenreuth Germany' mark. Both styles have the pattern name and number also printed. See photos. I am unsure of the dates of production reflected by these two marks, but believe they are late 20th century prior to the business closure in 1995. Company History (per The Old Stuff website): "Heinrich Eichhorn in 1832 asked for permission to set up a porcelain factory in Tirschenreuth in Tirschenreuth. Eichhorn was a manufacturer from Schney near Lichtenfels. His request was rejected by authorities of the city Tirschenreuth. Finally, after objecting to the decision, permission was granted in 1833. Construction of the factory was completed in 1838. In the beggining Eichhorn had to subsidize the firm. In 1846, a second kiln was put into operation. Heinrich Eichhorn died in 1880 and his shares were acquired by Edmund Tittel, Friedrich Muther and August Bauscher. Next year August Bauscher sold his shares to Karl Gotthold Mezger. In 1908 Gotthold Mezger died, his shares were transferred to Johann Schlipphack. During World War I the sales markets collapsed. In 1926 the director Johannes Schlipphack died. In 1927, the porcelain manufacturer Lorenz Hutschenreuther took over the porcelain factory Tirschenreuth [NOTE: there is one cup photographed that has the maker's mark of "1838-Hutschenreuther-Tirschenreth-Germany"]. After the WWII, production was started already in September 1945. In 1994, the Lorenz Hutschenreuther AG separated from the Tirschenreuth porcelain factory and at the end of 1995, the Tirschenreuth porcelain factory was closed after more than 150 years." Condition: Excellent condition with very little signs of use. Light wear to gold trim, light utensil marks and light shelf wear may be present. See photos.
