Description: MARVEL COMICS Marvel Studios Cinematic Universe MCU Movie Speculative Key:First Appearance & Origin: The 'New' Sentry/ The Void, God of Light___________________ In a surprising move, Marvel Studios has included THE SENTRY in their upcoming THUNDERBOLTS (2025). Given the power levels of the film's known cast of characters, the Superman-like Sentry is clearly out of their collective league. This fact alone supports the "asterisk" at the end of the THUNDERBOLTS movie logo, suggesting the team may very well be re-named the 'Dark Avengers" or possibly "New Avengers" before its screen time runs out. Given that The Sentry was a founding member of the Dark Avengers in Marvel Comics' New Avengers #49 (2009) and even appears on the cover of that issue, we're betting good money that there will be at least two -- if not three -- distinct teams of Avengers going into Avengers: Secret Wars (2027). While exactly how far the filmmakers will explore Sentry in Thunderbolts is unknown at the point, as is whether or not the character will continue on to Avengers: Doomsday and/or Avengers: Secret Wars, writer Jeff Lemire provides The Sentry a.k.a. Robert Reynolds some fantastic character growth in this fourth issue of the character's 2019 limited series, an issue which may be highly relevant in Sentry's MCU character arc. In Sentry #4, Reynolds comes to a new understanding of his darker aspect - the terrible blackness of THE VOID -- and is able to merge with it and become not the destructive entity of his past, but an all-new version of himself... a God of Light. Indeed, with the cumulative Avengers fighting an "uphill" battle in the coming films, the horrible complications an out-of-control Sentry could bring to the table would not be helpful in the least. But a Sentry able to control himself as a brilliant force for Good might help turn the tables on Doctor Doom and the inevitability of Multiversal collapse. Our conclusion: this Issue is most definitely worthy Spec. Give your collection what it deserves ... today!
