Originally Published in 2009 by Taschen in an even larger format, and ultra high quality paper and binding, that first edition sold out quickly and so Taschen reprinted the book in 2015. This SECOND EDITION of the book is still extremely good quality. It is a fabulous bargain, selling for a fraction of the current price that 1st editions go for. Along with books like Milbourne Christopher's Illustrated History of Magic, and the companion book to the PBS Art of Magic television series, Taschen's MAGIC 1400-1950 is certainly in the running for the best Magic coffee table book of all time. If this book is open to any page on your coffee table, and guests see it, the conversation will turn to magic. It is such a big and beautiful book, lay people cannot help but look at it. After they learn a bit about magic history, show them some of your best stuff! The history is written by som eof magic's smartest folks (Mike Caveney, Jimm Steinmeyer, and Ricky Jay), so you will also learn a lot reading this and enjoying the great colorful illustrations.This hardcover book is BIG, (see the photo of it next to a poker size deck of cards -- not included!) and crammed with amazing info about magic's colorful history. See the photos of the table of contents and page samples to get an idea of just how beautiful and comprehensive this book is. I figured this book would be selling for about $100, since 1st editions go for 3-4 times than that. But I was amazed to find someone selling this book for less than $50. WOW!! Fabulous price fro this fabulous book, and as I never want to be higher than the lowest price I find, I will sell this one for the same! PLEASE READ CONDITION NOTESCONDITION NOTES: previously owned -- in near mint condition, but has a minor dent on the upper right corner of the cover.
