Description: HI! PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY AND IN ITS ENTIRETY! (It will take you less than 2 minutes and 30 seconds.) First things first. NO DISCOUNT. Ever. I do not offer discounts on any of my Buy It Now listings for the past 24 years. ALL MY PRICES ARE FAIR. Because they have to be. This is NOT my hobby. THIS IS HOW I TRY TO EARN A LIVING FOR THE PAST 28 YEARS, INCLUDING THE LAST 24 YEARS ON EBAY. That means I have to sell my items in a timely manner. Otherwise, my wife will say something like this: "Hey, Jerry, when are you going to make a deposit at the bank?" Fortunately that has not happened often in the past 28 years since I am still married...so far! PLEASE NOTE! A major local dealer recently offered to buy some of my 1987 Classic Yellow cases for a bit more than the price I am selling this. And, of course, without any fees. me. (If a dealer is willing to pay me the same or even a little more than what I am selling, that means my price is way too low. AND OF COURSE, FOR HIM TO MAKE A PROFIT, HE HAS TO RAISE HIS PRICE! I always prefer to sell to an investor or collector, rather than a dealer. Thanks for your interest. As of October 26, there were SIX people interested in this. This is a Buy It Now listing for a super rare factory set case of 1987 Classic Update (Yellow) Baseball sets. There are 24 factory sealed sets in this case. I say this is super rare because the last case of this I saw on eBay--except for the several cases I have sold the past few years!-- of this was 15 years ago! That's right--2009! This set case is now 37 years old. Originally designed as a baseball trivia game, over the years Classic has become a coveted sports collectible for smart investors and dealers alike. THIS IS THE SECOND SET THE COMPANY EVER MADE. As a contrarian in most aspects of life--I don't even own a smart phone nor have I ever texted in my life--in 1989 I bought a lot of Classic. And I mean a lot. Dealers made fun of me. Friends made fun of me. Even my wife made fun of me. (She does that a lot!) I believe I own more of this item now than anyone on this planet. And I ONLY own a total of 9 cases. Not 90. Just 10! I once owned more than 35 factory set cases of this. Most of those I sold in the early to mid-1990s. The average price per set case I sold was around $650. That was then. This is now. This was a short printed product. They made LESS than 4,000 cases! Heck, the major manufacturers back then probably printed that many in a week--during their lunch hour! Perhaps this is one of the three nicest sets Classic ever made. Only 1987 Classic Green and 1989 Classic Orange are nicer looking). There are only 50 cards in each set. The key cards are the rookie cards of Bo Jackson and Barry Bonds. Other superstars in the set are Mike Schmidt, Pete Rose, Wade Boggs, Kirby Puckett, Roger Clemens and Mark McGwire. Notice how many players are from the steroid era although I firmly believe that at least Bonds and Clemens will be elected to the Hall of Fame by a special committee within the next 10 to 15 years. When that happens, all of the rookie cards of Bonds and Clemens will soar in value. THIS IS IMPORTANT! When Classic made this set, they inadvertently started the print run with green backs (left over from their Green board game set) to the cards before they realized their error and changed the backs to yellow. I DO NOT KNOW IF THIS CASE HAS YELLOW BACKS OR GREEN BACKS. The error green backs go for more than double the yellow backs. (You have about a 33% chance that this is a case with the green backs. IF I KNEW THE SETS IN THIS CASE HAD GREEN BACKS MY PRICE WOULD BE $1500 OR MORE. If you even get one high grade Bo Jackson or Barry Bonds among the 24 sets--no matter what color the back of the cards are--you will have almost paid for a big chunk of the entire case. Or just keep the case sealed and wait. When I did some sports card shows 35 years ago, I used to regularly sell only six cards from the set for a total of $30. Like every other Buy It Now listing I have had on eBay the last 24 years, I have priced this rare case to sell. The price is $714.00. THAT IS LESS THAN $30 PER FACTORY SEALED SET. The rules: 1) No discount. You either want it or you don't. If you want it, the price is $714.00. If you don't want it, you would be overpaying by $714.00. 2) Please add $48.80 for insured shipping if you live in the continental U.S. I also ship worldwide through Ebay's International Shipping Program. Ebay charges a fee for this service, so check Ebay for details. I have now shipped to 30 countries and all 50 states. is that? 3) Payment is due within three days of purchase. 4) Paypal preferred, but other forms of payment are fine, too. 5) I am proud of my feedback on Ebay, encompassing more than 7,700 separate transactions over the past 24 years. If you have a couple more minutes, please check my other listings. I specialize in rare but affordable collectibles and memorabilia with major focus on five things: sports cards, framed and unframed photos, Beanie Babies, Marilyn Monroe items (somebody has to do it!), and Pokemon cards and plush. My Pokemon weekly auctions always start at 88 cents with no reserve. 6) The most important rule of all--DON'T FORGET RULE NUMBER ONE! Thanks for reading this far. And if you have a question, keep it to yourself. (Just kidding!) Thanks. Jerry P.S. The last FIVE cases of this in the past 15 years have been sold by me. That is the definition of rare!
