Description: Springfield, VERMONT - Jones & Lamson Machine Co - UDB: Springfield is a town in Windsor County, Vermont, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 9,062. The Jones & Lamson Machine Company was founded in 1858 by Silas Lamson, Abel F. Goodnow and B. Buchanan Yale after purchasing the assets of the Robbins & Lawrence Company. Its industry was lathes and thread grinders and its headquarters were in Windsor, Vermont (1858-1888), Springfield, Vermont (1888-1984), Cheshire, Connecticut (1984-1990) and East Springfield, Vermont (1990-2001). During its early stages, the firm also manufactured firearms, sewing machines, textiles, machine tools and metalworking/woodworking machinery. In 1964, the firm was acquired by Textron, Inc. and was operated by its Waterbury Farrel division. In 1980, Textron split the company into two divisions. The lathe division remained in Springfield, while the optical comparator division, J & L Metrology, Inc., was moved to South Carolina. In 1985, the Waterbury Farrel division, including Jones & Lamson, were sold to Donald C. Hoodes, an investor from California. The combined operation was named Jones & Lamson Machine Company and J & L Holding, Inc. was formed as a holding firm. The company filed for bankruptcy in November 1986 and most of its assets were liquidated. In 1988, the firm was acquired by the Goldman Financial Group, Inc. and the Waterbury operation was renamed Jones & Lamson Waterbury Farrel Corporation. Two years later, most of J & L was consolidated with another Goldman subsidiary, Fellows Corporation, based in Springfield, Vermont. Following the bankruptcy of Goldman in 2001, the assets of J & L were sold to Bourn & Koch Inc. who continues to supply replacement parts for J & L machines today. This Undivided Back Era (1901-07) is in good condition, but there is some scraping in the center area of the bottom border. Souvenir Post Card Co. New York. No. 12800.
