This season would prove an iconic one for Michael, winning his fourth NBA MVP title (leading the Bulls to 72 wins), with an additional NBA Finals MVP title after the Bulls defeated the Seattle Supersonics in the Finals. The sneakers themselves — designed by legendary Nike designer Tinker Hatfield — were created when Tinker realized that Mr. Jordan would roll his foot on hard cuts when playing. Hatfield took this opportunity to build a sneaker that would suit Michael with these difficult movements during gameplay. The patent leather on the uppers of the shoe additionally allowed Michael to wear the sneakers with a suit.
