Description: Severus Alexander, Roman Imperial bronze sestertius, 222-235 A.D., Sear 2265, R.I.C. 645, 28-29 mm, 21.7 gm. The obverse shows a laureate head of the emperor to the right, with slight drapery on left shoulder, with the legend "IMP. ALEXANDER PIVS AVG.". The reverse shows Providentia standing left, by a modus, holding corn ears and cornucopiae, with the legend "PROVIDENTIA AVG. S. C. ". Both sides are mostly a dark, olive tone, with some small areas of dark red toned on some of the high spots. The portrait shows a nice detailed representation of the emperor with hair, beard, ear, facial features. The reverse also still shows good detail, with some small acretions near letters and design features. This is a genuine, original coin, not a copy, replica, or reproduction. EX.
