Description: WHAT A GEM! The quintessential “Bright Young Thing” of the 1920’s- 1930’s Cecil Beaton set, Stephen Tennant was immortalized in photographs, paintings and sculptures by all the top artists of his day and was the role model for many characters in fiction (notably Nancy Mitford and Evelyn Waugh). Pick up nearly any issue of TATLER during his reign, and one is nearly guaranteed an account of his social forays and crazy hijinks at country house parties. One outstanding biography by Philip Hoare (“SERIOUS PLEASURES: The Life Of Stephen Tennant), his artistic output was incredibly sparse. Apart from illustrations for his mother’s poetry books and countless drawings for his own book LASCAR which never materialized, this is his one solo published work. And what a work it is! Written and produced in 1929, yet never published until 1937, the publisher Hamish Hamilton produced this 1986 edition. This copy is in VERY GOOD condition, unmarked except for a price and initials handwritten verso of the front cover. Apart from that, it is remarkably good for a copy that is now 38 years since publication. Please look at the pics and feel free to ask any questions. This is not only a charming, fun and eccentric read, it would also make a terrific gift for anyone who shares those qualities with its author. Please also check our other listings! In the coming weeks, we will be offering several other prized 1920’s - 1930’s Art Deco pieces, including sculptures by ALEXANDRE OULINE, LUCIEN GIBERT, JEAN DE RONCOURT, MAX LE VERRIER, tea/coffee sets from CHRISTOFLE, PUIFORCAT flatware, goblets and cocktail set from Desny, Revere, Lurelle Guild for Kensington, and Chase, modernist paintings, a suite of cubist portraits / lithographs, African and tribal art, as well as a nice selection of furniture — a Machine Age Norman Bel Geddes for Simmons bedroom set, (dressers, bed, vanity / desk), tables and chairs by Wolfgang Hoffmann and Alfons Bach (Royalchrome, Lloyd). Also, a Paul Frankl inspired skyscraper coffee table, and small objects and figurines (Rosenthal, Hertwig Kathutte), as well as a pair of shagreen*/ leather screens custom created for the Baccarat Hotel, NYC. We are also in process of posting nearly a dozen men’s designer pieces (sunglasses, leather shoes, boots, sneakers, jackets, luggage, duffel bags, and sweaters) from Prada, Bottega Veneta, Hermes, Cartier, Dolce and Gabbana and Gucci — so if interested, please be certain to check back in the coming days. We recently listed a pair of Bottega Veneta goatskin parchment (vellum) hard suitcases from the estate of Andre Leon Talley.
