This is a well written thought provoking book which approaches Rumi from both Islamic and universalist perspectives, insomuch as he compares Rumi's belief and approach with those found in other traditions and extrapolates on the deep yearning for the bond with God, the wedding with Allah we all return to someday. I found this to be an enjoyable book. Jalaluddin RUMI was a Persian Muslim Mystical thinker born in Balkh (present day Afghanistan), or some say Wakhsh (Tajikistan) is perhaps the best known of the Sufi Mystics. During his lifetime (1207-1273) he was respected and and honoured by members of many faiths. It is said upon his passing that Christians, Jews, Zorastrians recited to honor him from their own scripture in the city of Konya (present day Turkey). Rumi was a practicing Muslim. He was educated in Aleppo (still a city in Syria), and it was upon travelling to Konya he met the dervish Shams i Tabriz, who along with Baha u'ddin Zakariya became his spiritual mentor.
