Not only is this cartridge retipped, but it is upgraded with a solid 0.30mm sapphire rod cantilever and nude 5/120micron Fritz Gyger S diamond. This radical asymmetrical diamond is the very finest phonograph diamond made today, with the longest scanning edge available, the lowest distortion, best tracking and also gentle on your records. The Fritz Gyger FG S is the same diamond as the van den Hul 1, both of which are produced under a shared patent. If you know the revolutionary Rega moving coil cartridges, you know how good the tiewire-less sound is. This suspension design does away completely with the typical suspension tie wire, freeing up the mechanism and unleashing incredible sound. The sound is incredibly accurate, clean, full end to end and detailed but without turning cold in the slightest way. Even with these upgrades that can sometimes make a cartridge sound somewhat cooler than an original model, the Apheta has retained its warmish voicing and full lively presentation. This cantilever and diamond on this cartridge is all upgrade with no compromise. The Apheta 2 is originally produced with an aluminum cantilever and nude elliptical diamond. The Apheta 3 has added a line contact diamond. This cartridge goes beyond line contact to Fritz Gyger S and surpasses the Aphelion 3 ($5500 MSRP) that is supplied with a boron cantilever and nude line contact diamond.
