Description: Rattlesnake Island Local Post Stamps (RILP) NEW 2024 Battle of Lake Erie. RILP has started up local airmail service between Rattlesnake Island and Port Clinton Via Griffing Flying Services. The USPS contracts with Griffing Flying Service to fly mail from the 4 neighboring islands in the western basis of Lake Erie but continues to deny Rattlesnake Island the right to have mail service. This was the reason Dr. Frackelton started the RILP in 1966 and is still the reason for the relaunch. The new 2024 stamps were released on Sept. 10th, 2024 to honor the pilots that flew the Lake Erie Island mail route over the decades. The new issue is "Island Aviation Through the Decades" and features the following planes in various weather. RSI 208 & 211 - .50 - Piper - Saratoga with the 2024 Solar Eclipse RSI 209 & 212 - .75 - DeHavilland - Beaver with a Water Spout RSI 210 & 213 - 1.00 - Ford - Tri-Motor with a Rainbow The brave pilots endured difficult weather and runway conditions as 2 of the island runways were grass, one was stone, and only South Bass Island (Put-n-Bay) was asphalt. You will receive both styles of perforations. The standard perf 12 and a die-cut imperf of each of the 3 designs. Scan of stamps is a stock photo. The stamps were designed by Beth Lynne Gregerson who also designed the last 2 year's of Rattlesnake Island Local Post (RILP). She also designed the last 4 RILP local post issues from 2007 - 2010.
