Description: EDUCATIONAL FRONTIERS 1969 A.J. NYSTROM RAISED-RELIEF MOON GLOBE VERY HARD-TO-FIND ORIGINAL 1969 7" RAISED-RELIEF LUNAR GLOBE. Extraordinary and rare 7-inch limited edition 'Man in Space' lunar relief globe was made to celebrate the live Moon landing in July 1969. Not many lunar models were raised relief. These orbs were the very first accurate raised relief globes of the moon ever produced. The orbs also show the far side of the moon in detail. The head of the Hayden Planetarium in New York supposedly declared it "one of the finest celestial models he had ever seen." CBS TV at the time, purchased the rights to use the moon globe for their simulations during the live coverage of the moon landings in 1969. They were constructed to celebrate the live success of the Apollo 11 mission. The orbs rest on a simple acrylic cradle. Produced by Educational Frontiers, the company commissioned the US based company, A.J. Nystrom & Co, Chicago to construct and market the orbs. Educational Frontiers allegedly gave these moon globes away to their best customers as a keepsake although some may have been sold separately. But they were produced small in numbers only available for a short time, thus are rare and very sought after. Production shifted to a larger 13" edition with a ruled meridian which replaced these smaller 7" models, making them even more rare. This one is in excellent condition, although the base does have some patina including adhesive residue as well as some nicks and scratches - SEE PHOTOS Payment required within 48 hoursBuyer will pay actual shipping costsThanks for looking!
