Description: Offered here are six- to twelve-inch, well-rooted seedlings of Poncirus trifoliata, a dwarf tree that offers year-round interest. From its glossy green trifoliate foliage to its contrasting yellow-orange citrus fruits to its stunning golden autumn leaves, these trees are beautiful. Even following an ice storm, the contorted branches and thorns are gorgeous when encased in a thin layer of ice. These trees are hardy. Mine fared well during the Arctic Blast of Christmas Day 2022 when temps were in the single digits here in South Carolina. They are known to do well in climates where other citrus trees fail. Still, a moderate climate is probably best. Or a location where there is some shelter blocking the worst of the cold. Nonetheless, these trees are tough. The fruits are seedy and horribly bitter, but very attractive. I'm told they make wonderful marmalade. I have yet to give them a try. I am told they make superb bonsai specimens. Attention-getting tree that will be a conversation piece in your garden, for sure. My tree is over ten years of age, and is a little over six feet in height and a few feet wide. Perfect for small, compact gardens. Downside: Beware of thorns. The trees have stickers. Plant away from pets and small children. Also, gather and properly dispose of any fallen fruits to avoid allowing the tree to become invasive. Regulations and the terms of my nursery license will not permit me to ship to California and Arizona.
