One on-line comment about both: Great fantasy/SiFi series. Farmer is one of my top 5 favorite writers. Very recommended. Commentaries on line: I'm re-reading this now after finally completing the series. It's been almost 40 years since I first read it, so I'll see if it keeps its 4 star rating (I doubt it), but I HAVE to find out how the entire story winds up.The re-read was great. There are some holes in the story, but it still stands as a fun, quick read. It's still a fairly unique adventure story that is based on SF, but has some fantasy elements, sort of. For years, I considered it a good, stand-alone, novel. I still think so. Nice writing and world building. Doesn't really stand up to current fantasy or science fiction but an above average example of the golden age of pulp. Recommended to both fans of fantasy and science fiction. I read this because after finishing The Great Book of Amber I learned that the World Of Tiers series had a great influence on Roger Zelazny. Since I already had this sitting on the shelf, I went for it.This was definitely a product if its time, where men are macho and women are either nagging, becoming hysterical, or just being eye candy. Farmer strays a bit from this archetype, but not far. That said, it was not enough to put me off from thoroughly enjoying this grand adventure story.I look forward to reading more books in this series. Impressive book, read it long time ago, re-read June 2017. Has a good story, really well described characters and just was amazing.When you start to read it you can't stop :) About GATES: Wolff-Jadawin, demigod in Earthman's guise and Lord of the World of the Tiers, opened his eyes to see the symbol of the Master-Lord Urizen floating below the ceiling. The summons from the cruelest of the universe-makers was direct and urgent. Jadawin's beautiful wife had been abducted and held captive by the satanic Urizen. To redeem her, Jadawin was required to enter the many-leveled universe constructed by Urizen for his personal torment. Joined by several of his siblings, without his extra-human powers, forced to venture through world after booby-trapped world to storm the gates of creation itself! Commentaries on line: This is a re-read for me. I devoured this series decades ago and recently found myself yearning for it again, even having forgotten every single thing except that I love it. And having finished this outing in this series, I recommend it. This is pulp, pure and simple, but it's fun pulp. Characters smarter than they have any right to be. Every one is healthy and good looking. Lasers, floods, wars in the sky, explosions, what more could you want? After the first book I thought I was done, but I am interested enough to see how the third book develops. An excellent, excellent book. Wonderful fantasy.
