Description: Artist: Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939) Title: Bières de la Meuse Date: 1897 Size (w x h): 39 x 57.1 in / 99 x 145 cm Printer: Imp. F. Champenois, Paris. Materials and Techniques: Colour lithograph on paper Linen backing: Yes Condition: A (Designates a poster in very good condition. The colours are fresh and there are no or very few paper losses. If there are imperfections they are marginal and imperceptible). Additional Details: Rare Art Nouveau poster created by Alphonse Mucha in 1897 to promote Bières de le Meuse. It depicts a woman with long, wavy hair holding a mug of beer in her hand. She sports beer-related attributes in her hair: barley, hops, wheat, and poppy/poppy flowers. At the bottom of the poster, we see two black and white inserts not created by Mucha. One shows the factories where the beers are brewed, and the other represents the allegory of the Meuse which represents the goddess of the Meuse leaning on an amphora from which the river flows. Les Brasseries de la Meuse was a French brewing group. The Meuse breweries are a company created in 1890 by Adolphe Kreiss and Henri Bungener, originally bringing together two breweries, in Bar-le-Duc in the Meuse and in Sèvres in Seine-et-Oise. Alfonphe Mucha is a Czech poster designer, illustrator, graphic designer, painter, interior designer and decorator, a spearhead of the Art Nouveau style. He began working in Paris in 1887 where he met Sarah Bernhardt for whom he made several posters. He also created a poster for the Salon des Cent where he exhibited later. We also have for sale the poster for the famous Salon des Cents de Mucha, do not hesitate if you want more information. Further information and photographs available upon request.
