Packaging: My first experience with buying nichrome wire several years ago was 100 feet of 40 AWG (gauge) in a loose coil (not wound on anything). I did my best to keep it in order but it soon was a rats nest of tangled loops that I ended up having to throw away. I wind smaller gauges on plastic cards. Why cards rather than spools? Because spools have to be sent in a box which costs a minimum of $5.00 for postage. If they are sent in an envelope, they are easily broken. The cards cannot be broken and still keep the wire neat and tangle free. Larger size wire wound as open coils does not have nearly the same issue with tangling as smaller wire sizes. Also, smaller wire wrapped on a card can be easily straightened but as the size increases, the kinks going around the corners are more of a nuisance so smaller quantities of sizes larger than 28 gauge are shipped as neatly coiled open coils and bound together with plastic covered wire ties and larger wire also has one plastic tie wrap to insure it doesn't uncoil in transit. Larger lengths of larger sizes are supplied on spools and shipped by flat rate USPS Priority mail. Each order is also sealed in one or more plastic bags (except for spools).
