Description: Nannyberry Viburnum have beautiful glossy green foliage with gorgeous fall coloring. White flowers produce an attractive and edible fruit display that changes from yellowish pink to bluish-black. The fruit grows from September until freeze. This shrub has a slender, upright-branching habit and can be grown as a small multi-trunked tree or trimmed to be kept as a shrub. Nannyberry is great shade-tolerant plant but you will get more fruit and have faster growth in a sunny area. One of the most underappreciated wild fruits, nannyberries (Viburnum lentago) is said to taste like prunes mixed with bananas. Nannyberry is also known as sheepberry and is a lesser known cousin to highbush cranberries, nannyberries are native to Eastern North America, Southeastern Ontario and Quebec. They're often found in moist, sunny areas like the edges of marshes and ponds.
