Description: Please visit our eBay store for a complete list of in-stock Civil War relics organized by recovery location. We are working as partners in conjunction with Gettysburg Relics to offer some very nice American Civil War relics for sale. The owner of Gettysburg Relics was the proprietor of Artifact at 777 on Cemetery Hill in Gettysburg for a number of years, and we are now selling on eBay. RECOVERED IN THE CONFEDERATE TRENCHES/EARTHWORKS AT THE AREA OF THE MINE RUN CAMPAIGN, VIRGINIA ~ Dug in the Confederate trenches at the site of Mine Run in Virginia ~ We don't acquire Confederate buttons very frequently, so this one is rather special as it was recovered from the Confederate trenches at Mine Run in Virginia within the last few decades by a well-known relic hunter. Although this is a heartbreaker as it is only the back of the button and the shank was ripped away from it, this 22 mm Confederate brass Coat Button back has a very clear backmark 'E.M.L. & C. Richmond, VA'. E.M. Lewis & Company of Richmond was a manufacturer of many buttons for the Confederacy. If you need one to complete a Block I button face or another large coat button, this is certainly a good option. This Confederate coat button back was recovered in the Confederate trenches at Mine Run. The Mine Run Campaign was a potential major battle that never came to be. After Gettysburg, Meade was pushed to advance against the Confederate Army in Virginia and did so in November of 1863. After an intense fight around Payne's Farm, the Union Army came upon Lee's Army which was well-entrenched along Mine Run. Attacks were considered and the position was probed but ultimately it was determined that the position was too strong. The digger began metal detecting in 1971 and was always careful to store his artifacts so that the find location was documented. I acquired this relic directly from the digger. A provenance letter with information and digger's name (he is still living) will be included. We include as much documentation with the relics as we possess. This includes copies of tags if there are original identification tags or maps, as well as a signed letter of provenance with the specific recovery information. All of the collections that we are offering for sale are guaranteed to be authentic, and are either older recoveries, found before the 1960s when it was still legal to metal detect battlefields, or were recovered on private property with permission. Land on Battlefields that is now Federally owned, or owned by the Trust, was acquired after the relics were recovered. We will not buy or sell any items that were recovered illegally, nor will we sell any items that we suspect were recovered illegally. Thank you for viewing!
