Massive Unidentified 18th Century Revolutionary War Era European "Lion Head" Pommel Horseman's Saber Click images to enlarge Description For Consideration is a Massive Unidentified 18th Century Revolutionary War Era European "Lion Head" Pommel Horseman's Saber c1770 c1750's-1770 Unidentified and very unusual circa 1770's European Cavalry Horseman's Saber/Sword with an amazing early design "Lion Head" pommel and massive 32 inch curved blade. Brass Stirrup hilt with "D" Style Guard that raises up perpendicular to the blade. The Lion Head Pommel is of the design and style of the Lion Head Pommels Swords made in the 1750's-1770's. Wood grip with leather still present in areas with the original wire wrap still tight. The curved single edge blade measures 32.0 inches with large double fuller. It has a dark gray untouched patina with some very light surface rust. There is a makers mark above the short ricasso and on the brass guard which looks like "Crossed Cannons on a Shield with Crown" which we think may be German. The overall size of this sword is 38.0 inches. This Sword is in wonderful untouched as found condition with soiling and some minor pitting, more towards the tip. Blade still quite sharp and shows several Small nicks from battlefield use. This sword is very tight with absolutely no movement and would look fantastic on display in it's current untouched condition or a fun restoration project. This is truly an Amazing Sword! This sword came out of a Very Large Military collection we purchased from Edinburgh, Scotland about 25 years ago. *We apologize for being so vague on our description.
