A Loggerhead's nest consists of around 100 eggs all the size of a ping pong ball. They will lay between 3 to 6 nests within 12 to 14 days apart. Very few of the hatchlings will survive. Loggerheads are listed as "Threatened" in the United States which means they are in danger of extinction within the foreseeable future. The biggest threat is loss of nesting habitat due to coastal development. Other threats to this species, as well as other sea turtles, are capture in longline fishing, shrimp trawling and pollution.
