Description: Hello folks, TinMan here with our newly redesigned circuit breaker kit. This kit is designed to be installed between the transformer and the center rails of your layout. The pictures above are suggestions as to how to install the kits to your transformer. We used a ZW and KW as an example for you. The way the pictures show, will only protect the outputs they are hooked up to which typically are used to run the trains. The balance of the outputs are still protected by the transformers internal circuit breaker. We call this new item our "Gunrunner" kit. With many thanks to him for his assistance in developing this great item. So if the original transformers have a built in circuit breaker already, why do you need this kit? The original breakers installed at the transformer factory were put in circuit for one purpose only. That was to protect the transformer from self destructing. They were not designed to protect the outputs of their transformers. Yes they normally will open should you have a short circuit due to a derailment or other ills. The problem is that by design they take way too long to open. Even with our changing to modern designed circuit breakers for the transformers we sell and refurbish, while way better than the original units, they still take to long to open. NEW INFO: We refurbish and sell lots and lots of KW's and ZW transformers. Every so often we run across one that shows sign on the primary coil wrappings of excessive heat. We then check the transformer and frequently find the output voltage is not quite up to standards.. They should both be a little over 20 volts. If they are below 19 we scrap the transformer for parts. It occurs to us that the only thing that can cause this is excessive heating in the very large coils on the output side of the internal transformer. And, the only thing that can cause that is when the output of the transformer is shorted, for a long period. This kit will stop that problem and also therefore protect the transformer! Because of that we are now working on yet another kit to use for accessory power outputs. There is a lot of discussion on the O gauge forums, that if you have modern engines with built in electronics, you should not use any transformer that has not been designed more than 7 years ago, for fear of damaging the solid state equipment built in some of the rolling stock. I understand the newest bigger Lionel transformers have corrected these ills. Only problem is they cost close to to $1000, and their reliability has not been good. To fix these issues we found a source for some really fast acting circuit breakers that will open much faster than the original Lionel with any short circuit. We originally offered these kits to customers with the normal auto reset breakers. These new breakers worked faster and better than even our original kit (which sold out in just a few weeks). This kit will work with virtually any train transformer. If you have for example an older smaller transformer, the kit will work great in those too. Any of these style transformers (under 100 watts) we sell and or refurbish the kit it is not necessary because we have already installed the new breakers in lieu to the original factory ones. The larger transformers require a larger breaker, which cause the negative issues. There is a very helpful additional feature these new units will do. Instructions are included which by using this new device, you can check the integrity of your layouts loops electrical capacity. How these new ones work.... The LED'S will light when the internal circuit breaker(s) open. This will then indicate which side has an issue, so you can isolate the problem causing the breaker to open. These brand new units have an interesting change over the original ones we made. Comments from customers suggested that we change the auto reset breakers to a manual reset which requires you to push a button (as shown in px) to reset the breaker. Great idea, so once again back to the drawing boards. Ended up contracted with a Japanese circuit breaker company. Had these new breakers especially designed to our specs. The will remain operational with up to a 7 amp draw, but any more than that will open. In case of a short circuit they will open instantly. With the new manual reset feature it allows you unlimited time to find the issue that caused the short circuit and correct the problem. This feature is also a great idea if you have grandchildren or other non-train folks that want to run your trains. With this new kit if there is for example a derailment, the train will stop and allow the operator to contact you to come and fix the issue, and then you can reset the breaker with a push of one of the side buttons, and off they go! Pretty cool eh? Oh we now offer a really cool new kit that is designed to neaten up your accessory wiring, plus give another advantage of having it's one built in circuit breaker. The listing no for this new item is: 275737679351. Once again the combination of the two, will also very much not only protect your layouts, but also the transformers themselves. Want to know more? just google tinman3rail and there we are click on transformers Lots of cool info there. We are in the process of writing an article which explains these units completely and what our test results are. Naturally complete wiring instructions are included. Dealer pricing is available with substantial discounts. Please call or email for info. As with all of our items they come with a no BS of a minimum of a 2 year warranty.
