Description: KING & COUNTRY WWII BBA104 U.S. ARMY G.I.'s "CHOW TIME"... ONE G.I. GETS READY FOR A HOT MEAL SERVED UP BY A 'CHEF'... SOMEWHERE IN THE ARDENNES DURING THE WINTER 1944 BATTLE OF THE BULGE... DECEMBER 1944 - JANUARY 1945*Note: the addition of the King & Country Company Registered Trademark Logo in the photos for this listing certifies that an authorized and licensed King & Country Dealer is offering this item for sale. As any serving or veteran soldier will tell you a good hot meal will warm you up as well as cheer you up in the most difficult of circumstances. The ‘Battle of The Bulge’ was a prime example… Here a waiting-in-line GI leans forward to get a helping of hot beef stew and vegetables. The kneeling ‘Chef’ makes sure everyone gets a fair share of this hot chow before they once more return to their foxholes and dugouts in the frozen fields and forests of the Belgian Ardennes in December 1944. Note also the big metal pot and the neat little field cooker. And if it may not be the finest ‘cordon-bleu’ cooking in the world… it sure as hell beats a handful of snow and a cold can of ‘C’ rations! NEW 2023, AND AVAILABLE NOW FROM PICACHO PEAK COLLECTIBLES! Please Note: Images contained in this listing of the German Map of the Battle of the Bulge, an M1 Carbine, the image(s) of Original WWII M1 Carbines, the diagram of the M1 Carbine, the image of U.S. Troops being served a meal during the Battle of the Bulge, the various other images of U.S. Troops during the Battle of the Bulge, the WWII Memorial in Washington D.C. or the Luxembourg American Cemetery ARE ALL FOR HISTORICAL PURPOSES ONLY AND ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE SALE OF THIS GI "CHOW TIME" TWO FIGURE SET! Bradley HISTORICAL NOTE: Allied Infantry During the Battle of the Bulge 0 0 1 481 2747 Picacho Peak Collectibles 22 6 3222 14.0 Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE The Battle of the Bulge (16 December 1944 – 25 January 1945) was a major German offensive campaign launched through the densely forested Ardennes region of Wallonia in Belgium, France, and Luxembourg on the Western Front toward the end of World War II in Europe. The surprise attack caught the Allied forces completely off guard. United States forces bore the brunt of the attack and incurred their highest casualties for any operation during the war. The battle also severely depleted Germany's armored forces on the western front, and Germany was largely unable to replace them. German personnel, and later Luftwaffe aircraft (in the concluding stages of the engagement), also sustained heavy losses. Different forces referred to the battle by different names. The Germans referred to it officially as Unternehmen Wacht am Rhein ("Operation Watch on the Rhine") or usually Ardennen Offensive or Rundstedt-Offensive, while the French named it the Bataille des Ardennes ("Battle of the Ardennes"). The Allies called it the Ardennes Counteroffensive. The phrase "Battle of the Bulge" was coined by contemporary press to describe the way the Allied front line bulged inward on wartime news maps; the phrase “Battle of the Bulge” became the most widely used name for the battle. The German offensive was supported by several subordinate actions including Operations designed to stop Allied transport over the channel to the port city of Antwerp, These operations were intended to split the British and American Allied line in half, so the Germans could then proceed to encircle and destroy four Allied armies, forcing the Western Allies to negotiate a more favorable peace agreement with the Axis Powers. Once that was accomplished, Hitler could fully concentrate on the Eastern theatre of war. The German forces with utmost secrecy, minimizing radio traffic, and moving troops and equipment under cover of darkness planned the offensive. The Allies ignored intercepted German communications that indicated a major German offensive preparation in the area. The Germans achieved total surprise on the morning of 16 December 1944 due to a combination of Allied overconfidence, preoccupation with Allied offensive plans, and poor aerial reconnaissance. The Germans attacked a weakly defended section of the Allied line, taking advantage of heavily overcast weather conditions, which grounded the Allies' overwhelmingly superior air forces. Fierce resistance on the northern shoulder of the offensive around Elsenborn Ridge and in the south around the town of Bastogne blocked German access to key roads to the northwest and west that they counted on for success. Columns of armor and infantry that were supposed to advance along parallel routes found themselves on the same roads. This and terrain that favored the defenders threw the German advance behind schedule and allowed the Allies to reinforce the thinly placed troops. Improved weather conditions permitted Allied air attacks on German forces and supply lines, which sealed the failure of the offensive. In the wake of the defeat, many experienced German units were left severely depleted of men and equipment, as survivors retreated to the defenses of the Siegfried Line. Please Note: As of 2019, we have now toured many of the battle sites, museums, towns and cities in the Netherlands and Germany, using the same self-guided, GPS supported itinerary that we have used on past travel to visit All Five of the Landing Beaches along the Cotentin Peninsula and many of the historical locations, museums and restored bunkers in and around Normandy. Also, as part of our 2019 trip to Europe, we used the same GPS supported format to once again visit the Bastogne area, including the Baugnez '44 Museum, the site of the Malmedy Massacre, the 101st Airborne Museum, The Bastogne War Museum, The December 44 Historical Museum, Stoumont Belgium, The Mardasson Memorial, the still existing foxholes of the 502nd and 506th P.I.R. and the pastoral surrounding area in Belgium. We have found the people of the Netherlands (Nederlanders), the French and the Belgian people, especially in Amsterdam, the towns in Normandy and the area near Bastogne, to be very friendly and still grateful to the Allies, especially the American forces, for their liberation… despite the huge loss of life and property damage suffered by the French, Dutch and Belgian civilians. In addition, should you plan to visit the area in and around Normandy, the Netherlands or Bastogne, we would be willing to share our experiences or trip itinerary with you, which may help to make your travel through the areas easier and perhaps make the historical experience more valuable.
