Beautiful monograph showcasing Katsura Palace, also known as Katsura Imperial Villa or Katsura Detached Palace, in Kyoto, Japan. Katsura Palace was originally the abode of Prince Hachijo Toshihito (1579-1629), a Japanese court noble of the Sengoku period. Katsura Palace is an excellent example of traditional Japanese architectural design and shows Zen Buddhist influences with its inclusion of tea houses. Photographer Takeshi Nishikawa spent five years photographing the palace and its surrounding grounds during different times of the day and year.
