In 1914, he moved to Tokyo to study under Machida Kyokue, and later under Kikuchi Keigetsu, under the name "Kimei. After marrying a woman whom Keigetsu did not approve of, he moved from place to place, never returning to Keigetsu Juku.In 1928, he joined Nishiyama Suisaki's Seikosha and took the name "Koho," and studied the Rimpa school and worked on the modernization of the Rimpa school. In 1930, he won a special prize at the 2nd Prince Shotoku Dedication Art Exhibition. In the same year, his work was selected for the Berlin Nihonga Exhibition and was purchased by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Grimms.In the same year, his work was selected for the first time at the 11th Teiten Exhibition, and was exhibited at the Teiten thereafter.
