Irish Moss seeds are very tiny, so it is better to start the seeds in starter flats or pots and transplant the seedling later to the garden spacing the plants 6-9 inches apart. Also called Heath Pearlwort, this evergreen, moss-like perennial grows only 1-2 inch tall featuring lush, emerald-green foliage and forming a compact, dense mat. Irish Moss blooms in spring and summer with small, star-shaped white flowers. Irish Moss Pearlwort can be planted as a ground cover or lawn substitute, and when planted in mass the growing Irish Moss creates the effect of a moss-covered meadow.
