I’ve bought this awhile back and upgraded the cpu/dvd drive just to have it sitting around. I meant to use it for a retro build project but have become way too busy to get around to it and would like to see it go to a good home. Specs: CPU: with the i7-990X, this socket is fully upgraded (doesn’t accept Xeon cpus), there is some overclocking capability but it requires opening up the tower to clear cmos when testing unstable settings- this is best done only by those familiar with the X58 platform but a mild cpu overclock is definitely achievable. RAM: I include a 3x4 12gb ddr3-1333 (running at 1600 Mhz). While the manufacturer specs state that this board is maxed out at 16gb (4x4gb dual channel), it will support 24gb 3x8gb ddr3-1600 triple channel without issue. I didn’t test 32gb 4x8gb. For upgrading, I would suggest either: Maximum memory bandwidth for cpu tasks: 24gb 3x8gb ddr3-1600 1.5 Volt CL-9 kit instead of 1.65v Maximum memory for retro 32-bit gaming: 3gb 3x1gb ddr3-1600 or 4x1gb ddr3-1600 with lowest CL available PCIE: 2 16x PCIE 2.0 lanes are available. Crossfire/SLI compatible. Power Supply Unit (“”Flex ATX standard”” if you want to replace it) of 500w bronze rated will support 1x8-pin pcie or 2x6-pin pcie GPUs -> See the note on cases Storage: 3 SATA 2.0 slots and 1 IDE connector- I swapped the DVD drive to an IDE model (which still has windows 10 compatibility as shown with the music disk in the photos) to free up an extra SATA connector 240gb sata iii SSD is included with activated installation of windows 10 pro license, the case also has a sticker for Windows 7 Ultimate edition if you’d like to install that: 500gb laptop sata disk is also included. I’d remove it and use it for storage and just replace that with another ssd. Maximized storage would be: IDE DVD Drive and IDE HDD on cable slave + 3 sata SSDs staggered underneath them; there are plenty of sata connectors on the PSU. Operating Systems: win 10 pro, win 7 ultimate included, computer will also beautifully support windows XP in 32 bit if you get a 3x1gb/2x2gb/4x1gb ram kit and an accompanying sound card. Bios updated to latest edition Case: The case is designed to accept itx motherboards, I see that there are front panel connectors on the board so if you wanted to transfer this motherboard to a 3-slot itx case it’s possible, just be sure to check the motherboard length against the case that was you could max out the board with a 2 slot GPU and choose between adding in a different sound card or a pcie x16 bifurcation board to stack different features onto it like usb 3.0 + m.2 slot for faster game loading times and then use the satas for booting other operating systems Additional accessories/cables included: 2x SATA cables, pcie 6-pin to 8-pin adapter, USB 2.0 male to female extension cord, 2x 64gb USB Drives, power cord, 24 ft cat5e Ethernet patch cable There are two gigabit Ethernet ports available for home lab use.
