Hiram M(aple) Shaffer, Treatise on Baptism

Description: A Treatise on Baptism in Two Parts; Part 1, Infant Baptism; Part 2: Mode of Baptism. This specific volume is leather bound, published 1849. The author had it reprinted in 1851 (and it has been reprinted numerous times, including current reprintings also available on eBay and other online venues). This volume, however, is the original. I have found only reprints for sale online. This appears to be the only 1849 edition currently available. It is in good condition for its age, but generally (i.e., compared to new or nearly new books) would have to be considered in "fair" condition. Please see pics. CONDITION: binding is solid, though the spine is cracked at the creases. Front pages are somewhat damaged (see pics) but intact. Ownership signatures inside front cover. Edges of the leather covers are scuffed, but as you might expect for a book of this age. All pages appear to be intact. Various leaves have folded paper notes between them -- for instance, a newspaper clipping from 1898 is folded between two of the pages (see pics -- this is not a loose page from the book). Many pages have penciled notes in the margins. Extra care will be taken for packing and shipping this book. Hiram Maple Shaffer was "a minister of the Methodist Episcopal. Church, was born in Carroll County, O., in 1804, and graduated as a physician when but eighteen years of age. He afterwards studied law, and was admitted to the bar at Sidney. He joined the Church in 1831, was licensed to preach in 1832, and entered the Ohio Conference the same year. In this and the Central Ohio Conference he passed his ministerial life.
