Description: The Douglas DC-6 is a piston powered airliner manufactured by Douglas Aircraft Company from 1946 to 1958. The DC-6 was originally intended as a military transport near the end of World War Two. Douglas reworked it after the war to compete with the Lockheed Constellation in the long-range commercial transport market. The DC-6 had its first flight on 15 February, 1946. Delta Airlines began flying the DC-6 in November of 1948. There are still several DC-6's operating around the world primarily used in niche roles such as cargo operations and specialized services. There were 704 Douglas DC-6's manufactured in various versions. Delta Airlines is one of the major airlines of the United States. Founded on 02 March 1925, Delta is one of the worlds oldest airlines in operation. In 2008, Delta acquired Northwest Airlines. In 2010, the Northwest brand was retired and all Northwest aircraft were converted to the Delta livery. Delta had twelve Douglas DC-6's in service from 1949 to 1968. Features of their DC-6's included a six person lounge in the rear of the cabin, and two pair of aft facing sets in the forward cabin. This Delta Douglas DC-6 with registration number N1901M was delivered to Delta on 30 September 1948. It flew under Delta colors for about twenty years, when it was sold to another carrier on 16 October, 1968. The aircraft was scrapped in 1972 (how very, very, sad).
