Description: The original design for this plate, titled "La Fraise" (The Strawberry), was created by Belgian artist Henri Privat-Livemont and first appeared in Art et Decoration in 1898 (see image). Two years later, a "Posteresque Plaque" design by Adelaide Alsop Robineau, suitable for a plate, was published in the May 1900 edition of Keramic Studio Magazine (see image), an early resource for hobbyist porcelain painters. This 10-inch plate was hand-painted by R. Devito and closely follows the original plate design. The porcelain blank is marked "Made in Germany," indicating it was produced before 1945. Additionally, the plate bears a handwritten date (10-19-1956) in the United States' MM-DD-YYYY format, which likely signifies a previous American collector's acquisition date, as artists typically note the completion year. This plate was most likely painted in the early 1900s. Condition: No chips or cracks. Some paint loss noted.Dimensions: 10" diameter.
