"This book is dedicated to every person who has faithfully supported our ministry over the years." William Franklin Graham, who lived from 1918-2018, was an American Evangelist who was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, the son of a dairy farmer. Graham attended Bob Jones College for a semester, graduated from Florida Bible Institute and received his BA in Anthropology from Wheaton College in 1943. Graham married Ruth Bell following their graduation from Wheaton College in 1943. They became parents to five children, two sons and three daughters, and all five became ministers. Ironically---at least in the beginning---Graham believed that women should be wives and homemakers and not should career outside the home. Graham began his Evangelical Crusades in 1947. Graham was an ordained Southern Baptist minister and Civil Rights advocate whose broadcasts and live sermons became known internationally. During a career spanning six decades, he was considered "among the most influential Christian leaders" of the 20th century. Graham knew and personally advised Presidents: Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Carter, Nixon, Reagan, Clinton, George Bush, and Obama. At age 29, Graham became the President of Northwestern Bible College in Minneapolis. Graham repudiated racial segregation and insisted his revivals and crusades were open to all. He invited Martin Luther King Jr. to preach jointly at a revival in New York City in 1957. Graham preached to live audiences of 210 million people in more than 185 countries and territories. In the Acknowledgments page, Graham wrote: "Over three centuries and a half ago, John Donne penned the familiar words, "No man is an island, entire of itself." Among other things he was reminding us of our need for each other, and that we are dependent on others for anything we truly accomplish in life." In the Preface, he wrote: "To be honest, I never thought I would write this book. . .but a number of friends urged me to undertake the task." "In the Bible, an evangelist is a person sent by God to announce the Gospel, the Good News. . .the evangelist is not called to do everything in the Church." In the Introduction, Graham said in February 1949, shortly after the inauguration, I wrote to the White House asking the President's secretary to assure him that "over 1,100 students here at Northwestern are praying daily that God will give him wisdom." President Truman responded and invited Graham to visit him at the White House. "I was just a tanned, lanky thirty-one-year-old, crowned by a heavy thatch of wavy blonde hair, wearing what TIME magazine would later describe as a "pistachio-green" suit with rust-colored socks and a hand-painted tie. When I arrived at the White House, the President's secretary took me by the hand, informing me that my visit would last exactly twenty minutes." Later, reporters asked, "What did you say?" Did you Pray with the President?" I replied, "Yes, we prayed." Finally, Graham wrote that without my wife, Ruth, there would have been no autobiography to write, for she has been vital to my life and an integral part of our ministry. . .I have read that Johann Sebastian Bach ended each composition with these words: "Soli Deo Gloria---"To God alone be the glory." Those are my words as well, at the end of this project." 760 pages. I offer combined shipping.
