Description: Alpine Peasant Ware was handcrafted in Germany. It gained popularity during the early 20th century. The pieces were hand-painted by skilled artisans, showcasing rustic charm. These ceramics were often used for everyday purposes, making them an integral part of a traditional German household. Front of box shows a German man and woman in traditional dress in a dance step flanked on both sides with a folk-art flower. The word SALT is printed on the domed top above the hinged wood lid. Both sides of box have a hand-painted green leaf. Back has ink stamp - Alpine Peasant Ware Hand-painted Germany. Measures about 6 3/4" x 6 1/4" x 4 1/2". Under glaze crazing is noticed on the back side only. One or two light stains inside from years of use. Wood lid finish is distressed with wear consistent with age. Hinges are tarnished. No chips or damage and glazed surfaces are shiny.
