Description: Fine Pencil Signed and Numbered Limited Edition Mid-Century Modern Framed Lithographic Print by Listed Artist John Haymson. Number 37 of 250.The lithograph itself is in excellent condition. The metal frame is in good condition. There are some scratches on the right side (see Picture 6) and there is a dent to the bottom towards the right (see Picture 7). Painted in blue, green, black, and grey on a white ground, this lithograph appears to be an homage to Modigliani as the female figure is unmistakablyrendered in the style of that great artist. Haymson's favorite subject matter, city architecture, has been worked into the background, a Paris street view. Haymson also seems to be referencing another great artist, Renoir, as the figure's dreamy pose before a fancy iron railing with her face resting on her hand recalls Renoir's work as the rendering is lighter and less sculptural than Modiglianis women. It all makes for a lovely and pleasing composition. As the litho is framed and matted, I don't know it's exact size, but I estimate it to be approximately 21 inches by 25 inches. The opening in the matt measures 18 1/4 inches by 22 1/2 inches. It is framed in a classic mid century modern silver metal frame (aluminum?) measuring 24 3/4 inches by 29 inches and double matted chocolate brown over pale sage green. JOHN HAYMSON (1902-1980) John Haymson's remarkable talent has had a major impact on twentieth century art. His contribution, which spanned several decades, has yet to be fully recognized. In the 1960's and 70's his lithographs, and in particular his watercolors, enjoyed huge popularity. It is an accepted fact that he was the Country's most widely reproduced and sold artist of the time. Represented by the New York Graphic Society and Aaron Ashley, Inc., his works were sold all over the world. In the United States Haymson worked for five very exciting years on movie synopsizes for Warner Brothers. For an ensuing seven years he taught painting at New York's Parsons School of Design, while conducting student art groups to Austria, France, Israel, Greece and Mexico during the summers. At that same time he established his studio on 46th street in Manhattan and embarked on what was to become a very successful period of his life.
