Description: Up for your consideration is a Early C.1830's Small Antique Brass Casting Reel Very Simple Design Marked "60". You can tell the early age of this reel by the design and materials used. The reel is made with unfinished brass. It has more of a rough finish. Not everything is straight or in line. It was defiantly produced for use and not for looks! The reel is extremely simple. It does not have any gears or mechanisms. The handle is directly attached to the spool. However you move the handle directly moves the spool. It is not the smoothest reel as there are no gears or bearings, it is direct. The reel is stamped "60" on the foot. This is the only visible marking I have seen. Reel is in good shape for its age, it does show use and wear. Measures about 2.2" in diameter and 1.15" wide. Unfortunately the knob appears to be missing. It would have probably been bone or wood.Very near early reel. Have not seen many examples like it. See pictures for further details. Feel free to ask any questions.
