Our price for this photo poster is $149 We are delighted to offer this unusual piece of modern Latin American and Caribbean history -- a Cuban poster that reproduces a photo showing Cuban President FIDEL CASTRO and Venezuelan President HUGO CHAVEZ at a 1999 "old timers" baseball game at the Latinomericano stadium in Havana. Notably, the photo was taken by Fidel Castro's son, Alex Castro Soto del Valle, at this sold-out game in which Fidel Castro, then 73 years old, served as manager of the Cuban team and Hugo Chavez, 45, toiled for nine innings as a pitcher and first baseman on the Venezuelan team. The game received widespread coverage in the international media, including the BBC and New York Times, and was televised live in Cuba and Venezuela. According to media reports, Fidel Castro played a prank on Hugo Chavez by substituting the old timers on his Cuban team for members of his stellar national team, which had just won its third straight gold medal at the Pan American Games. Cuba squeaked past Venezuela, 5-4.
